A Sure Secret of Greatness

A Sure Secret of Greatness

Many of us crave greatness but the sad part is that those who want to be great are ignorant of the secret associated with achieving it. Many are of the wrong notion that “Greatness is a product of luck or chance.” But, the truth is that greatness is not a game of chance. There is a secret and this secret was revealed by Jesus Christ. He said, “…whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave” (Matthew 20:26).

This simply means that SERVICE is the sure secret behind attaining greatness. It’s interesting that Christ directed His disciples’ attention to Himself as an example to emphasize His point when He said, “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and give His life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28). Undoubtedly, Jesus is the greatest man that has ever lived but He became a servant first. He served like no other and so if you want to be great for God’s glory, serve others. Service to God and humanity will always work anywhere anytime. It’s a time tested secret that never fails. Be prepared to serve others if you want to be great in and for the Lord.

King David was a man after the heart of God because he was a man of great service to God’s people. Paul had this to say about David, “For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God fell asleep …” (Acts 13:36). Begin to lay the foundation for your greatness today by serving your generation, so that those who live after you have fallen asleep will have something good to remember about you. Today, we remember mother Teresa because she gave it all in her service to God and man. What will people say or remember about you? Think about it. Stay blessed and Merry Christmas.

  1. Thanks for this, Ruth! The world tells us that greatness is determined by our accolades and accomplishments, but Christ shows us that greatness is defined by how low we can go – how well we can serve others. This post blessed me today!
