Choose the Adventure

Choose the Adventure

“Many people are so preoccupied with future plans and decisions that they fail to see choices they need to make today. Without any conscious awareness, they make their habitual responses. People who live this way find a dullness creeping into their lives. They sleepwalk through their days, following well-worn paths of routine.

I, the Creator of the universe, am the most creative Being imaginable. I will not leave you circling in deeply rutted paths. Instead, I will lead you along fresh trails of adventure, revealing to you things you did not know. Stay in communication with Me. Follow My guiding Presence.” from Jesus Calling by Sarah Young.

During the few moments before I leave for work in the mornings, I try to read the short devotion from Jesus Calling. When I read the above excerpt one morning, my breath caught and my eyes misted.

I had shared about the adventure God wants to have with each of His children with the FCA at the high school where I work not long before reading this.

As I read the first part quoted above, I gave myself a mental forehead smack. How well Jesus knows that I can sink into that dullness and just sleepwalk through many of my days. I get into the rut of going to bed, getting up at six, getting ready for work, driving to work, and doing my job. Jesus has fresh trails to lead me on. Sure, I still may work at the same place, but Jesus can make each day an adventure if I’ll just stay in tune with Him and His leading.

One of the high school girls bravely spoke her love for Jesus in front of her classmates not long ago. I was so impressed and proud of her, since there are so many varying views in this class. There are known atheists as well as many other various lifestyles. I felt one of my God-nudges, so I approached the young lady and let her know how proud I was of her. That was a hard proclamation to make in mixed company. I also wanted her to know that I am a lover of Jesus too.

How badly I want this young lady and others to know that even as dark as it may be, it’s worth it. Keep with Christ. It really can be an adventure if only you’ll let Him lead and be creative in you.

Too often we sink into that dullness and follow our routines when we could live the adventure. I simply try to start each day by asking the Lord to lead me and let me shine for Him. He then uses my willingness to lead me in fresh and creative ways. The thought of an adventure with God gets my blood pumping.

How about you? Are you open for adventure? Are you in need of being pulled from sleepwalking through your day? Communicate your desire to the Father. He won’t let you down.

I needed this encouragement Paula, thank you. It’s so easy to be comfortable with our routines yet bored by them at the same time! I need to ask God daily for whatever adventure He has for me that day.

  2. Tina, it is so easy to just go through the routine motions and miss out. I’m like you, I’ve learned to pray for God not to let me miss out on any adventure He has for me. Thanks for commenting.
