Satisfaction

Satisfaction

Watermelon on a hot day. Clean sheets or a fluffy pillow. Laughter. What do these things have in common? They can all leave us feeling satisfied. However, that feeling of satisfaction is temporary and leaves us wanting more of it or something else that is fleeting and temporary.

God created this world with all the good things we needed to be satisfied but unfortunately Adam and Eve didn’t appreciate all they were given and wanted more. Sound familiar?

Satisfaction is elusive when we attempt to fill it with the things of this world…money, alcohol, drugs, sex, work, relationships and the list goes on and on.  All of these leave us needing and wanting some more or different.  This world encourages us to never be satisfied, to always want more, newer and better. Advertising is dependent on us buying into that notion and oftentimes we oblige. Do a self-check…are you satisfied with the many blessings in your life or are you being an Adam or Eve and telling God it’s not enough and you want more?

Once sin entered the picture, man was left with an emptiness that can never be fully satisfied except when we fill it with Christ. Only faith in Jesus as our Lord and Savior can give us the satisfaction our hearts desire here in this life.

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and He will give you everything you need.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭12:31‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The more you read God’s Word, the more you want to read it; the more you’re in relationship with Christ, the more you want to be in relationship with Him. But even this satisfaction isn’t complete. For believers, only when Christ returns will we be fully and completely satisfied. But until then seek first the Kingdom of God above all and over all else.

“They will never again be hungry or thirsty; they will never be scorched by the heat of the sun. For the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd. He will lead them to springs of life-giving water. And God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”  Revelation‬ ‭7:16-17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Beautiful post Tina — it’s true, we aren’t satisfied with anything, we always want more! But I love how you point out that it’s like that with God too, the more we have the more we want! The difference for me is that my hunger and desire for God, although never fully satiated, is constantly filled by Him. And it’s such a good feeling. I’m very grateful, because the world just leaves me empty!

Thanks Laurie! I agree, God not only fills our desire but also leaves us feeling satisfied yet wanting more of Him because of the satisfaction that only He can provide. It’s difficult at times to understand how she can meet our needs yet I continually want to turn to Him for more. That’s what I’m most looking forward to in eternity is knowing we spend all our time worshiping and praising Him with nothing else to distract us and require our attention.
