We are the Light

We are the Light

I’m a news junkie. I will admit, I pay way more attention to the news than the average person. This comes with many pros and cons because I can easily become bummed by all the negativity I see every day. But it also makes me more aware of the plight of other nears and far from me.

There are a lot of hurting people around the world. People are looking for answers about the existence of so much evil around us. We who are the light have a responsibility to extent a hand to them in word and deed. We must share the word of God with them since we believe it is the only hope in a world of darkness. Believers are liken to flickers of light within an otherwise darkened world. Our light should be pointing them towards the ultimate Light, Jesus.

We who are a part of this valuable Kingdom of God have found a great treasure and we should want others to find it too. Just like this parable, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field. This great treasure must not be kept to ourselves but shared with the world.

Most of the times the world wants nothing to do with what believers are offering. This can dampen anyone’s enthusiasm about spreading the good news about Jesus. What gives me hope is, it is the Holy Spirit that convicts man of sin. We are only the vessels through which God works. The Bible says of the Holy Spirit, “and when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment (John 16:8).

Sharing the gospel takes most of us outside of our comfort zone but can we continue to sit by and watch the world struggle for answers? Not everyone will be in a position to share the good news but the least we can all do is pray fervently for the world. Pray that God will raise up people who are bold and unashamed of being that ‘city on a hill’ shining for all to see.
