Secure on Father’s Day

Secure on Father’s Day

Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders. Deuteronomy 33:12

by Danetta Kellar

Rested. Protected. Carried. These are the images of my Father that comfort my soul.

I am so often weary, exhausted with the work and toil of this life.

Stop, my soul! You are beloved. Rest in your Father’s arms a bit. Then you can go on renewed. In His tight hug, you will find security that holds you steady though the world around you spins out of control.

I long for protection from the harsh elements of living in a fallen world. Without my Father’s shielding, I am like the sojourner in the desert who has no shelter from the burning heat. My Father shields me and holds His own water to my lips to drink deeply. My thirst is quenched and my heart refreshed in His protective embrace.

Run to your shield, my heart! Stay there a while and let him attend your scrapes and bruises. Listen to the quiet. Rise restored and courageous.

No matter how old I am, I need to be picked up and carried. I need to feel the strength of His broad shoulders as He nestles me right between them, my head high above the cacophony below. I can see the way ahead from that high vantage point, and it doesn’t matter so much where we are going. He is carrying me, making a path.

You are secure, little one! Hold Him tight as He parts the crowds of your life. He knows the way.

Happy Father’s Day, Father of mine.
