Road Trips

Road Trips

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
When I was a child, road trips with my dad were always … interesting. As long as he let Mom navigate from the passenger side with a map, things were just fine. But there were times when he ignored her directions. And then, well … we saw some pretty amazing countryside while Daddy tried to find his way back to the highway. Of course, being a typical man, he never stopped to ask directions. (No GPS in the 1940’s & ’50’s.)
Sure, following the directions Mom read from the map would have gotten us to our destination much faster. But those unintentional side trips while Daddy got us lost, provided some great adventures—and misadventures—for us, along with fun topics of conversation for years to come. “Remember that time …” or, “We wouldn’t have gotten stuck if …” And, to be truthful, once Mom gave the wrong directions. Naturally, that was Daddy’s time to rub it in, but good.
But isn’t that just like us in our day-to-day lives? We fail to listen to our Navigator and lose our way. We end up taking many side trips along the way, trying to find our way back onto the right path. But God always knows where we are. All we have to do is ask Him for directions and He’ll get us safely to our destination.
Just as Solomon wrote in the above passage, as long as we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He’ll direct our paths.
