Go In the Strength That You Have

Go In the Strength That You Have

Go in the strength you have… Am I not sending you? Judges 6:14, NIV

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, Gideon was fighting for survival. He was hard at the unglamorous work of protecting his family’s resources from their enemies. It was not exactly a day for visitors, not to mention a commission from God Himself.

But that is precisely what happened. The angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon right in the midst of his work day and changed his entire life.

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” (v.12)

Gideon replied to this incredible greeting with a listing of his weakness, his doubt, his fear.

Instead of touching him with a magic wand and making Gideon better, stronger, more suitable for the task ahead, the Lord turned to him and commanded him to go just the way he was. In the strength he already had.

God calls us from exactly where we are, as we are.

And He commands great things through the strength we have right now. Not the strength we will have after we have trained for a few months, studied for hours, or sacrificed. The strength we have today, right where we stand threshing, doing our work for the day.

What is God sending you to do today? Go in the strength you have.

The Lord answered, “I will be with you.” (v.16)

Lord, though I see my weakness and feel unqualified, fill me with courage to step out in the strength I already have. For surely the strength of Your call and Your presence with me is more than enough for what the future holds. Amen.

  1. I like your quote, “God calls us from exactly where we are, as we are.” If He didn’t we would never be ready because we would always be trying to measure up. Thankfully, He prepares us as He uses us while we walk in faith to see what the next step will be.
