Come Before Him With Thanksgiving

As we gather together with family and friends over Thanksgiving, it brings to mind the importance of praising our Heavenly Father for the many blessings He has given us. Last week our church held “A Night of Worship” and it was an amazing night of incredible praise for our God and King. Church staff anticipated there may be about 300 people who would attend the Wednesday night special service but instead we had 570 people there lifting high the Name of Jesus! It was incredibly powerful to see the youth all standing in the front with hands raised, eyes closed and voices calling out in praise. Other songs they were jumping up and down to the beat of the music as lights flashed all around creating an atmosphere worthy of our awesome God.

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song. Psalm 95:1-2

It got me thinking, how often do I take the time to really, truly, from the depth of my heart say thank you to God without asking for anything in return? Not often enough. I keep a gratitude journal next to my bed that I write in on a regular basis but even in that, I start with just thanking God for blessings that day but almost always then follow it with a prayer in which I am asking for something…healing for a friend or fellow church member, jobs for those seeking employment, healing for broken relationships etc.

How often do you take the time to just thank God? May this Thanksgiving be a reminder to us that we are to thank God every day. May it be a reminder that a heart and mind of gratitude helps us to keep a positive attitude for those times when we face challenging situations which can be difficult to be thankful for. This Thanksgiving, may the reminder that God is in control, that He is sovereign over all and that He is with us each and every day be all we need to say, Thank You God!
