God Is Always Working

God Is Always Working

I know what you’re probably thinking, even God took a day of rest, and you’re right, He did. However, since that time, God is always working amidst our circumstances even when we can’t see it.

This point has been driven home to me over these last couple of years but has come full circle recently. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying God is done working in my life, I know that’s not truth. But I can finally, after many years, see the fruit of God working and I have to say it does feel nice!

Our community has dealt with several very difficult circumstances recently and I felt God telling me to coordinate a forum to discuss mental health issues. At first I pushed it off but after continuing to have the feeling, I decided to bring the idea up to my family and they agreed it was important to do it. Next I put together an agenda and just emailed my idea out to several professionals asking if it would be something they’d be interested in helping with and they were. Before I knew it, the agenda on a piece of paper became a reality.

There were a few road blocks along the way, I even considered postponing but after praying about it, truly felt God saying now was the time. Well the event happened and there were over 70 people who attended! It was well received, appreciated and many asked questions, shared of personal struggles or those of family and friends. The importance of sharing and talking about these issues to help reduce the stigma was reiterated several times and all in attendance felt this event was the start of allowing that to happen. Faith was a big part of the evening as well because I know how important it is to my recovery from depression and suicide.

During my darkest days, I realize now I was focusing on my circumstances and believed because I had been waiting so long for God to work, that He was choosing not to. I lost hope although never my faith. I continued to pray throughout my struggles, crying out to God to help. He did offer opportunities for me to turn away from the path I was headed, but I chose my own path, kind of like Adam and Eve way back in the garden. Based on my actions, I was telling God, “It’s not according to my timetable so therefore I can’t wait anymore.” I can see now how disobedient that was to God. That’s why this time, when I really felt His Spirit moving me to act, I did and didn’t change course.

It’s not about me and my obedience; it’s about that God is always working, always causing things to work out for the good of those who love Him.

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 (NASB)

What is it in your life that you are doing right now that is about what YOU want to be doing not necessarily what God wants you to be doing? What in your life is God asking you to wait on and you are trying to take into your own hands? Be confident in this truth: God is working and active in your life. Trust that truth and not your feelings, not your circumstances and not what you can see because we only see in part but God sees the complete picture.

Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12b (NIV)
