Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday!

My birthday is in two days! I love birthdays and so does God!

Our physical birthdays are good but our spiritual birthday is beyond awesome! I told you that God loves birthdays but maybe you thought I was just using literary license to make a point but I wasn’t.  The Bible says there is a celebration in heaven when you have your spiritual birth.

Luke 15:7 says, “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” God is thrilled each time one of us become part of His family.

For most of us, our earthly parents loved us and took care of us when we were children to the best of their ability.  They want us to have a successful life.  They want to help us.  They want to give us all that they have, emotionally and materially.  They want good things for us.  They want to give us whatever advantages in life that they can.

Our earthly parents’ love is nothing compared to the infinite love of God. Can you imagine how much God is on our side?  Can you imagine how much he loves us and wants good things for us?  Can you imagine what good and wonderful plans our Heavenly Father has for us? Matthew 7:11 tells us “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

I don’t know about you but I love birthdays.  I love everything about birthdays.  I love birthday parties as long as they’re not mine!  Birthday cards. I really love birthday cake. I’ll admit it–I’vew been known to JOYbuy a birthday cake for no reason at all. And I love birthday gifts.

If we have a spiritual birth, then doesn’t it make sense that we get to have a spiritual birthday.  YEAH!! And that means birthday gifts.  The spiritual gifts that we receive when we become a Christian are extraordinary because they come from God.

What sort of gifts you might ask? First and foremost, of course, is the fact that we get to spend an eternity with God in heaven. But God didn’t stop there. In fact that’s just the beginning. Our birthday gift from God is like a gift basket. It includes eternal life but wait…there’s more.

God’s love, grace and forgiveness but wait…there’s more.

There’s peace and joy even in the worst of circumstances but wait…there’s more.

And let’s not forget God’s wisdom and power but wait…there’s more. The list could go on and on but I don’t have the space. But you might be saying I don’t have those gifts. Here’s the thing, God gives us those gifts but we have to open them.

How do we do that? Well…by using one of God’s most amazing and often neglected gift—God’s Word. The more time you spend in God’s Word, the more you’ll learn about His amazing gifts.

So happy birthday to me and to you!

  1. What a fun post. My granddaughter just had her spiritual birthday on Sunday, she made her decision to follow Christ and was baptized. She’s now a child of the King. I rejoiced as the angels rejoiced!
