A Long, Cool Refreshing Drink

A Long, Cool Refreshing Drink

“Jesus answered and said unto her, ‘Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again, But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.’” John 4:13, 14

The adult body is made up of approximately 60% of water. The amount varies with the individual. Water helps you digest your food, lubricates your joints and  flushes waste from your body. Those are only three of a long list of the benefits of water. There is a popular belief that if a person wants to lose weight, she should increase her water intake and the weight will roll off. I’m not sure if that is technically true, but it has worked for me in the past.

I drink a lot of water.

During the past few months I have been ill three times with various infections. The most recent infection was frightening and very painful. I had an abscess on my skull that had to be opened and drained surgically. The infection had spread fast and was potentially dangerous. I thank God for the doctors who helped me and for the antibiotics that healed me.

My surgeon told me I needed to drink a lot of water to get rid of the infection. I gestured to a 24-ounce water bottle and said I usually drink two of those a day. She told me I needed to drink 64 ounces of water in addition to any other liquids I consumed. That was hard for me to do, but I worked on it.

The Bible mentions water repeatedly.

Jesus is the living water. When the woman at the well in John 4 came to draw water when other towns people were not around, Jesus told her that the water he gave her would stay with her for her whole life.

When we drink water, it isn’t long before we need more, but if we have Jesus we are not just refreshed for a moment, but are satisfied eternally. What does that Water do for us? For starters, it sheds the sin in our lives, just as waste is eliminated from our bodies when we drink physical water. The Living Water also generates Christian growth and enables our Christian walk to be smoother, just like our joints are lubricated with our water we drink daily.

If you have not partaken of the Living Water, I urge you to do so now.

“Blessed is the man that trusts in the Lord and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads out her roots by the river and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green, and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7, 8

So sorry to hear about your recent health scare Bettilu. Glad you have now recovered. I love these verses on Christ as our living water for the image it gives…our source of hope and daily nourishment.

Thanks for sharing and the reminder to drink actual water for our bodies as well. Not sure I can hop to 64 ounces but I’ll start w 48!
