The Greatest Gift

The Greatest Gift

Bgift-595871_640y the time you read this you’ll likely have finished all your Christmas shopping. You might still be wrapping gifts, baking cookies or preparing food for family. I know I’ll be in the midst of preparations and festivities since both of my sons and their families will be with us this year. My husband and I are excited to have them home for Christmas.

Last night my husband and I sorted through the various items we’ve accumulated through the year to decide which will go to each son, their wives, our grandchildren, my mother and her husband, etc. In fact as I write this, these gifts are waiting to be wrapped. No cookies have been baked yet. The house needs to be cleaned. In fact my ‘to do’ list will be really long once I finally get a chance to sit down and write it.

Ever been there? Feeling overwhelmed by your ‘to do’ list and all you want to do for the holiday, only to find yourself grumpy, tired and just wanting to crawl in bed? I’m praying I can put aside the busyness of the season and remember the wonder of the small child who came to earth with very little fanfare. All right. There was some. After all the angels proclaimed the news. The shepherds came to visit. But I can almost guarantee Mary wasn’t cleaning up the stall and making sure it was free of cobwebs before they came. She didn’t have a gift for her unexpected visitors that night. In fact she didn’t need one because the greatest gift of all mankind was given through her Son.

God Incarnate. The Prince of Peace. Our Savior. The Greatest Gift of All. God’s Only Son…. given for you…given for me. May we not lose sight this Christmas season of the Greatest Gift – Jesus. He’s why we celebrate.

The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
a light has dawned
on those living in the land of darkness.

For a child will be born for us,christmas-911251_640
a son will be given to us,
and the government will be on His shoulders.
He will be named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
The dominion will be vast,
and its prosperity will never end.
He will reign on the throne of David
and over his kingdom,
to establish and sustain it
with justice and righteousness from now on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this. (Isaiah 9:2,6-7)

Praying you and your family have a blessed Christmas celebrating JESUS.
