Ask And You Will Receive

Ask And You Will Receive

Do you ever find yourself thinking God has given you gifts that you’re not using? I know I have, especially over the last couple of years. I had this vision in my head of how and where God was calling me to share the ministry He has placed on my life. Only, it doesn’t really work that way does it? If we are going to truly live for God, then we have to be willing to be used where HE wants to use us, not where WE think is best.

Recently I prayed, “God, please use me today for your glory and Your purpose. Give me words and actions that are pleasing to You. Give me opportunities to reflect Your love to others.” Well, I asked and He provided!

I had just been feeling that I wasn’t making a difference in people’s lives using the training I received. Then I was at church and a staff person introduced me to a young couple who were newer. I asked where they lived and after they responded I commented on how cool it is that our church draws from all over. I said I am a part of the Prayer Card ministry and so I get to see how far away we pull from because we send cards to people who have submitted requests. After a minute, the wife said,”This is the Tina that sent us that beautiful prayer we have hanging on our fridge.” Wow, that was awesome to hear. Not because I’m being prideful but because it was God’s way of saying, after I was just questioning Him not using me, that He is using me. That it touched this couple’s life and had an impact on them. That is God’s Spirit at work!

Then more recently I ran into a woman and her daughter at the grocery store of all places and she recognized me from a former church we both used to attend. She shared she heard I was at a new church and asked how I liked it. I shared my heart with her and both she and her daughter got teary-eyed. They said they hadn’t been feeling their gifts were being used where they were and that they felt the Holy Spirit was calling them out but they just weren’t sure. They shared similar feelings I had experienced a while back and it comforted them to know I understood how they were feeling. I invited them to try out our church and even had a card on hand to give them that our church had just handed out that weekend! We all attributed our running into each other as God’s hand at work and they felt ready to make the tough changes they weren’t willing to make until they knew it was what God was calling them to do.

Was it something magical on my part that these things occurred? Of course not! I asked God to use me and He did. That’s the call He places on all of us. We just need to ask and then wait…I hate that part by the way. My type A personality likes to be in control. It’s only when we are willing to give control back to God that He can use us in ways so much greater than our own.

Psalm 19:14 “May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart, be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” (NLT)

  1. So true, Tina. It’s nice when you hear that you touched someone’s lives. I agree that’s when God lets you in on the fact that he’s using you for good. An encouragement to keep going!

I think most of the time we will never hear about the good we do, probably for our own benefit! Then we’d be thinking about that instead of doing our thing and allowing God to work through us. That’s why it is especially nice when God let us in on the process. 🙂

    God bless you, Tina.

That’s so true Cherie. The other gentleman who does devotions in the opposite weeks from me comments frequently that we never really know what’s getting in or not into the hearts and minds of these elderly folks most with dementia that we minister to. We can’t see what God sees. But you’re right, I need to remember what a special blessing it is when God gives us a glimpse. Thank you for taking the time to respond. God’s blessings to you too 😊
