Do You Think God Has Left You Hanging?

Do You Think God Has Left You Hanging?

Have you ever believed God wasn’t listening to your prayers? I’ve prayed over one request for years. I haven’t received the answer, but does that mean God doesn’t hear, or doesn’t care, that He’s leaving me hanging with no response?  (The picture is my granddaughter zip lining across Palo Duro Canyon in North Texas)

Our plane went into descent at the Denver, Colorado airport. Because of weather and traffic, the process took longer than usual. I texted my Colorado daughter that we might be delayed. The message wouldn’t send. I retried, still with no success. The pilot skillfully directed the big jet into the proper lane. We were safe to unload.

We followed the signs and all the other passengers through the tunnel, down a hall, and up an escalator. When we reached the top, nine texts, all from two of our daughters, popped onto my phone screen. Now, my message sent. Communication was complete.

That got me to thinking. I spotted similarities between texts and prayer answers.

Remember, the insights the book of Daniel gives us about God sending the answer immediately, but Satan, the prince of the world, fighting against it?

Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that thou didst see thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days; but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

                            Daniel 10: 12,13

I believe God sent this message not only to encourage his prophet, Daniel, but to give us understanding and lift up our heads when our hearts are bowed down with concern.

My daughters worried what was happening to us. Since they received no answer, they thought the worst (as we humans are prone to do). Anxiety pushed them to more panic. It stood to their reason, if we didn’t answer, we were in bad trouble and might never answer. My mind also troubled me. I knew they would worry, but I couldn’t let them know we were okay. Something fought against my messages and prevented them from being delivered, but it wasn’t that I hadn’t sent them.

If you’re down because you’ve prayed and prayed, but the answer doesn’t come, start thanking God for the answer, since He may be fighting obstacles to send His reply. Like those texts, they’re probably on the way. The fact that you don’t see the answers doesn’t mean they’re not rushing toward you at breakneck speed.

Have you been praying for a loved one for years? Have you cried out to be delivered from drugs, or food, or alcohol with no relief? Have you asked God to take you out of depressing circumstances, but you’re still there? Don’t give up. God’s answer is on the way.

  1. Yes, he definitely left me hanging. One time too many. I’m all out of belief.

    Brian,
I’ve felt like that so many times. I’ve been left with hurt and disappointment and wondered where God was in all of it. Now, years later, I know that He was there but I didn’t see it then. Sometimes it’s too hard to see it right then. What helped me was letting all my anger out and telling Him exactly how I felt. My prayers weren’t always “pretty” but God was patient with me. Brian, tell him how you feel and keep the conversation with Him going. He wants to hear from you, even when you’re mad and disappointed.

I just said a prayer for you and will again now: Dear Lord, Brian needs comfort from you. He needs to know where you are and needs to feel your love and protection. Please help him with everything he’s dealing with, Lord. Amen.

    God bless you, Brian.

Brian, when our belief wanes we need to replace it with Hope because Hope is based on the things that we can’t see. I know it’s hard sometimes, especially if we’ve been going through a long season of trials but I’m sure you have had times in your life when you were able to see after the fact that Gid was there, that what resulted was either better than what you might have been seeking or at least made your faith grow and draw you closer because you continued to trust in God. God might be refining you now but you have to keep the faith and the hope. God is the se yesterday, today and tomorrow. He was faithful before, He’ll be faithful again. May God Bless You as you wait and hope and trust in Him.

Brian, my heart aches for you. A few years back, my comment would’ve been much like yours. I felt as if God had failed me. I had done everything right, & God left me in the lurch, but He hadn’t. In the Bible, Elijah kept praying for rain, but all he could see was 1 small cloud, & his servant couldn’t see any hope. They kept praying & watching until their eyes were opened and they saw the glory of the Lord. My advice is keep praying, tell God how you feel. He’s big enough to handle it. I’ll pray that your eyes will be opened. God bless you today.
