A New Year and A Fresh Start

A New Year and A Fresh Start

A new year and a fresh start. Isn’t that a great feeling? Or do you dread it? I know some years I love it a little more than other times. And this got me to thinking. This thing called a fresh start. Isn’t this just what God gives us after we are saved? You’re shiny and new and what you did in the past isn’t there to hinder you anymore. I know, I know easier said than done.

2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

But, really think about it. There’s nothing that can hinder you in your walk. Sure circumstances and such, but God says he doesn’t hold our past against us.

Ephesians 4:22-24 ESV

To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

We repent and it is forgiven, right there and then. How cool is that? Maybe it isn’t even anything bad that you may have done or keep going back to. My biggies obstacle lately has been getting into the Word.

It isn’t that I don’t want to. Some days I’m just exhausted, plain and simple. Like it has been a rough day or week with the twins and their meltdowns due to their Autism. But, lately, I’ve found a way to get me into the Word more. Sure, some days I still mess up. The thing to remember is to take it one day at a time. So what have I started to do, you may be asking. Bible Journaling.

I’m still learning about this. The great thing is you can do this any way you wish. At the moment, I use colored pencils, stickers and a pen. Simple and sweet for now. It is amazing how the Spirit moves me on a certain verse to use while reading. Each day I open my notebook or Journal Bible there’s a shinny new page to write down all that God is doing or laying on my heart.

Don’t let a fresh start or a clean slate move past you. Grab a hold of it and don’t let go. What are some ways that you embrace a fresh start that God has given you?
